A tour of the city of Joburg, visiting vibrant downtown Jozi and it's suburbs. The tour takes in the areas of Hillbrow, Downtown and Constitution Hill. Which includes a drive past Nelson Mandela’s former Houghton home.
This is the new home of the constitutional court, the protector of South Africa’s basic rights and freedoms, post 1994. You can visit the courtroom where constitutional cases are heard (provided it is not in session) and wander the new buildings and library. Also on site is the Old Fort Prison complex, commonly known as Number Four, where thousands of ordinary people were many of South Africa’s leading political activists, including Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela were detained. They all served time here, but the precinct also confined tens of thousands of ordinary people during its 100-year history. They were people of all races, creeds, ages, and political agendas; children too, the everyman and the elite. In this way, the history of every South African lives here.
The museum is 10km from the hotel and can be visited independently or in combination with a Soweto or Joburg City Tour.
