The Apartheid Museum opened in 2001, tells the full story of apartheid—how it started, how it affected everyday life, and how South Africans fought to end it.This isn’t just a museum you walk through casually—it’s an emotional journey. It helps you understand not just what apartheid was, but what it felt like to live through it, and how people found the strength to overcome it. The content can be heavy and emotional, can last for at least 2–3 hours and best experienced slowly and thoughtfully. Inside, the exhibits include: personal stories (photographs & video footage); actual laws and documents that enforced apartheid; displays showing forced removals, protests, and resistance; and accounts of imprisonment, including the story of Nelson Mandela. The museum is 16km from the hotel and can be visited independently or in combination with a Soweto Tour.
Truth Cafe - Truth Cafe sits inside the Apartheid Museum complex in Ormonde, Johannesburg right across from the museum bookshop on the way out. Their kitchen is built around honest South African food freshly made, full of flavour, and rooted in the same culture that the museum celebrates.
