ACCESS
The hotel is open 24hrs. Our night duty manager & night security guard can let you in or out after hours. For security reasons we only permit registered guests staying at the hotel to enter the property after hours.
AIRCON
To cool the room, check that the aircon display has a ‘snowflake’ and that the temperature is between 18º-20º.
CHECK OUT
Check out time is required by 11h00. Reception can advise on alternatives should you require a late check-out.

ELECTRICITY
Voltage is 220v and South Africa uses a unique three-prong plug. We operate on solar, generator and municiple power. In the unlikely event of an outage there may be a slight delay as the power switches over. As we are in a residential neighbourhood, we do not normally run the generator between 00h00 and 05h00.

We are proud to be certified by Fair Trade Tourism South Africa. This is a non–profit organisation that promotes sustainable tourism development. Criteria for qualifying include: fair wages and working conditions, fair purchasing, equitable distribution of benefits and respect for human rights, culture and development. 'GO AWAY I'M ASLEEP'
This is our take on the ‘do not disturb’ sign and is the mini pillow hanging by your door. Hang it outside and we’ll stay away. The original idea came from the Delmonico Hotel in New York in the 1950's.
GYM
We have a Planet Fitness gym next door. To gain access please collect a voucher from front desk. There is a small charge for the voucher. You will need to take some form of identification with you (a photocopy is fine) as well. The hours of the gym are:

LAUNDRY
We have a full laundry service in-house and a dry cleaner opposite the hotel. Please place your laundry in the laundry bag and either notify reception or bring the bag down. All laundry is machine washed, tumble-dried and returned the same day (if handed to us before 09h00). Do please notify us of any items that are fragile, strongly coloured or require specialised or dry cleaning.
LITTLE EDEN
To put something back into the community we support Little Eden. Based about 25 minutes from the hotel, it cares for children and adults with severe intellectual and physical disabilities. Having been involved since 2008, we know the work it does is invaluable and that 100% of the support we give is for the benefit of the children. We donate a small portion of your room bill and also support them in a number of other initiatives. Should you wish to contribute or visit the facility please contact front desk.
SONNENGLAS SOMO LIGHT
The SOMO LIGHT converts an hour of summer sunshine into up to two hours of light - without the need for a power outlet. Thanks to cutting-edge technology, the SOMO efficiently stores energy and provides you with sustainable light even on cloudy days. Alternatively, you can charge it quickly via USB-C fast charging.
We have provided a light in your room which can be used in case the power should fail, as well as our backup generators. They are also available for purchase in our Shop.
LOCATION
We are located at number 61 North Street in the suburb of Melrose, a chic suburb between Sandton, Rosebank and Melrose Arch. The nearest landmark is the Planet Fitness Gym (next door). Sandton, the city's business hub, is ten minutes by car. Rosebank & Melrose Arch are five minutes. The hotel is opposite the James & Ethel Gray Park.
Postcards and letters may be left at the reception desk for posting, without charge.
MEETING ROOM
Our boardroom (adjacent to the lobby) seats up to 17 people. Provided that it is not already booked, you are welcome to use it without charge.
MOSQUITOS
In summer, mosquito plugs are provided in the rooms. Mosquitos will not appear in winter and there is no malaria in Johannesburg in any season.

The sustainable coffee pods '4 Weeks' are a sustainable coffee pod option as the pod decomposes in 4 weeks.
RESTAURANTS
The Garden Restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Pot Luck Club serves lunch and dinner on select days of the week serving Asian inspired small sharing plates. Bookings are essential and can be made on Dineplan https://www.dineplan.com/restaurants/the-pot-luck-club-johannesburg or with our front desk.
SMOKING
Due to local regulations, we regret that smoking is limited to the designated areas. All bedrooms, (including the bedroom patio & balcony) and indoor public areas and outdoor restaurant space are non-smoking.

TIPPING
As a guideline, a 10% -15% tip is common practicve on restaurant bills. It is also customary to tip anything from R5 for assistance with minor tasks (petrol attendant, porterage etc). Should you wish to add any gratuity to your room bill, this can be facilitated at reception. This value is distributed to every single staff member in the hotel.
